The recruitment of key positions within the Social Health Authority (SHA) has gotten a setback after the High Court issued a conservatory order stopping the planned onboarding.

The order follows a petition by the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO), which is challenging the legality of the hiring process.

Justice Lawrence N. Mugambi of the Milimani Law Courts directed that the petition and supporting documents be served by the end of March 24, 2025, with responses to be filed within three days.

The court order bars the Social Health Authority, its employees, officers, and agents from moving forward with the planned hiring for multiple positions until the case is heard and resolved.

The disputed recruitment process aimed to fill key positions, including Assistant Director of County Coordination, Director of Benefits Management, and Principal Officers for various county and beneficiary management roles.

KUCO Secretary-General, George Gibore in the case argued that the hiring process is unlawful and called for judicial intervention.

The next hearing for further directions is set for April 10, 2025.
